Hi, Kingdom Woman - This Is How To *Actually* Discover God's Purpose For Your Life
The Sister Letters
HELLO, KINGDOM WOMAN How to discover God's purpose for your life
To My Sisters
By the end of today's letter you will know your purpose (yes sis!) and exactly how to discover your assignment for the season you are in.
First, we need to understand the difference between Purpose and Assignment.
Your Purpose
We have all heard the Billie Eilish song from the Barbie movie all over our social media recently. This song reveals the deep and desperate cry for purpose in the hearts of man. And the fact that it resonates with so many people is evidence of how very few of us truly know our purpose in life.
So what is purpose? Simply put, the purpose of a thing is the reason it was created. As fellow human beings, we share a purpose that comes from our Creator. The Bible reveals the reason He made us and therefore our purpose. Your Purpose summarised:
The Bible says that God created you in His own image (Genesis 1:27) for His glory (Isaiah 43:7) and for intimate relationship with Him (Jeremiah 33:3), that you may reflect His nature on this earth and have dominion over it by His authority (Genesis 1:26-28).What does this mean?
We are walking in purpose when we know the One whose image we carry, when we have our identity wrapped around Him, when we give our lives to Him in worship and when we surrender ourselves as a yielded vessel to see His power flow through us all over the earth.
The first step to purpose is receiving Christ as your Saviour, and second step is pursuing a life of intimacy with Him (see the last 2 Sister Letters for how to do this).
The purpose of man is impossible to understand without the knowledge of God.
This is the reason why when Billie Eilish sings “What Was I Made For?” We know that the answer to that question can come only from the One who created us. No matter how successful you become by this world’s standards, without God there remains a void that only He can fill.
Your Assignment
As you walk in your purpose (giving your life to Christ and growing in relationship with Him), God will start putting assignments on your heart.
What is an assignment?
An Assignment is the work that God has called you to in each season of your life.I have had my own fair share of different assignments in my life so far. God has called me to help grow my church through creative ministry, He has called me to work a legal job so that I can learn the practical business skills I'll need for the future, He has also called me to start a social media platform so I can pour into His daughters with the things He has taught me and build spaces for sisterly fellowship, along with many other assignments along the way. All play a role in my greater purpose which is to glorify Him.It is important that you understand, assignments can change as God leads, but your purpose is consistent and never changes.
For example, if you thought your purpose was to be a secondary school teacher, when God is now calling you to be a full-time stay at home mum, you may feel as though you are not in your purpose by doing the latter. When in truth, you were in your purpose during both assignments but God has called you to something new in this season. This is why it’s important to distinguish clearly between your purpose and the assignment that God is calling you to in the season you are in.
Finding Your Assignment
So the question now is, how do you discover the current ASSIGNMENT for your life?
In other words, how do you know if you are currently in God's will and doing what you He has desired for you?
These are the right questions to be asking if you feel unfulfilled, unsatisfied or longing for more in your life.
Well, purpose will come first. Knowing your Creator and who you are in Him is of primary importance.
Your assignment will always follow when you are in alignment with your purpose, as you saw above.
God will reveal details of your assignment to you as you continue to grow in purpose with Him, because then, and only then, will you be equipped to handle the task.
But there is even more wonderful news...
The Assignment God has for you will align with your gifts, serve the lives of others, and bring you before kings.
As you continue to grow in your purpose, which is intimacy with God, then your assignment will become clearer and clearer. God will show you give you a vision and show you what He wants you to do with your life.
This Week's Challenge
For this week's challenge I encourage you to start seeking your assignment from God. As you grow in your intimacy with Him from our previous Sister Letters, you are being prepared to receive a vision of what God wants you to do in this season you are in.Answer these questions and ask God to reveal His vision to you:1. Which of the spiritual gifts resonate most with you? - Romans 12 lists them as (a) prophesying, (b) serving, (c) teaching, (d) encouraging, (e) giving, (f) ruling, and (g) showing mercy2. What are your natural gifts and skills? - write a list of the things people often compliment you on, things that you have a natural grace to do well and could do with the spirit of excellence (you do not have to be perfect at these gifts/skills, but you will likely be better than the average person in these things).3. In what ways could you help other people with your spiritual and natural gifts and would it be something you would enjoy? If you can identity something that uses your gifts, would bless others and be enjoyed by you, then you are have a beautiful assignment to inquire to God about. For me, one of my spiritual gifts is teaching, and my natural gift is content creation. I have always loved writing stories, filming videos, scripting plays and I've gotten better at it the more I have done it over the years. So when I did these lists of my gifts, skills, and passions, I saw that I could make people's lives better by creating content that teaches God's truth and helps them be better Christians. You see how God brought all these areas together? He will do the same for you, because He created every aspect of you with intentionality, and wants to use you greatly!
Answer those questions, write those lists and pray for clarity.God will reveal your assignment to you as you seek Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to continue pursuing intimacy with You. As we seek You for our God-given assignment in every season, reveal this to us at Your perfect time, that we may do amazing things for Your Kingdom and bless the lives You have called us to. In Jesus Name, Amen <3
