The Proverbs Challenge Day 3 - Chapter 3
Hi, Woman of God
Welcome to Day 3 of the Challenge!Did anyone else notice that its getting meatier? This Chapter was packed full of so much wisdom and its just warming up. Below is my study notes for today's chapter. Let's jump straight in!
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 3 (the chapter as a whole with emphasis on the verses highlighted below).
OBSERVATION
I see that the Fear of the Lord is to depart from evil and to pursue the ways of God. It is not fear in the sense of terror of Him but rather it is a fear of the consequences of a life separated from Him and His ways. It is a deep reverence for His authority over our lives. We as Christians may claim to love God, but to fear God is to obey Him. We are called to love God and fear God. The Fear of the Lord is essential to Wisdom, and this Chapter reveals that Wisdom:
preserves your physical health (v7-8)
brings true happiness (v13)
lengthens your life span (v2 and v16)
brings peace to your life (v2)
I note that these are benefits of Wisdom which are experienced here on this earth. God has ordained Wisdom as our helper here in this life to assist us in navigating ALL the issues of life. He sees the concerns we have about relationships, finances, health, everything, and He has given us His Wisdom to direct it all. But as we established in yesterday’s chapter, Wisdom has to be sought, pursued and discovered. This chapter also introduces a principle for an abundant life (v9-10): when we honour God with whatever we have (for example giving freely to others or using our gifts for His Kingdom) He replenishes us in excess. I've seen this to be true in my life. The more I give by His leading, the more He multiplies what I have. He truly is a rewarder of those with a generous heart.
APPLICATION
I am so excited to discover God's Wisdom for every area of my life. I no longer desire to pursue my own ways or the ways of culture when making decisions about my life, but rather I will consult the Wisdom of God through His Word. I will continue through this Proverbs challenge (and thereafter) to seek God's Wisdom and understand that He has the answers to everything that my heart has questions about. Praise God!
I will also welcome opportunities to be a blessing to the people in my life. When I give, I will do so without worry of lack, but with the understanding that God will always take care of me.
PRAYER
Thank you Abba for Wisdom. Fill me daily with the fear of the Lord. You are such a wonderful Father, You have given Your children so much, more than we even know or understand. Please help me to walk in the fullness of Your spirit all the days of my life. Let my ways reflect Your glory. Wisdom, I invite you to be my companion through this life, that I may abide only in the paths of righteousness. Where I fall short, I thank You Lord Jesus for Your blood that covers me and gives me grace to continue in You forever. God, You alone are worthy of all our praises. In Jesus name, Amen.
