The Proverbs 31 Woman Challenge Day Two: 5 ways to be a good homemaker and take care of your household as a Christian woman (even if you are not yet married)

Hi, Woman of God

Why are homemaking skills important for a woman of God?

My 5 KEY tips on Home-making for women of God:

  1. Invite God Daily Into Your Home: Your home is a reflection of you. When you are being built up by God, you will be able to build up your home and those who dwell within it. Pray for wisdom, patience, and strength to fulfil your responsibilities as a homemaker. Invite God into your home and strive to create an environment where His presence is felt through love, peace, and grace. Creating an ambience of God's presence can include worship instrumentals in your home/room, pleasant fragrances, cleanliness and order.

  2. Service and Hospitality: Embrace the biblical call to hospitality by welcoming others into your home with open arms. A wonderful book on hospitality is called 'The Gospel Comes with a House Key' by Rosaria Butterfield, a woman of God who came to Christ through the hospitality of her neighbour who welcomed her in to their home and shared the gospel with her in the safe environment of a loving home. This is an act of service unto others. Of course, apply wisdom in who you allow in your home, but look prayerfully and intentionally for opportunities to use your homemaking skills to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where people can feel valued and cared for.

  3. Teaching and Nurturing: Recognize the importance of nurturing and teaching your family members in the ways of the Lord. Use everyday moments to impart spiritual truths and values. Create opportunities for family prayer, Bible study, and worshipping together. As your personal relationship with God strengthens, your family will see Christ through your words and actions.

  4. Practical Organization and Management: Establishing effective routines and schedules can help keep your household running smoothly. Plan out tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and errands to ensure everything gets done efficiently. Utilise calendars, planners, or apps to stay organized and on top of responsibilities. This will exercise your discipline and develop your management skills; you will certainly enjoy the fruits of your conscientiousness.

  5. Meal Planning and Preparation: Food is an essential (fun!) part of the good home experience!  Providing exciting and nutritious meals for your family is an important aspect of homemaking and a reason people are excited to be in your home. Explore new  recipes by searching for videos and articles online. Even if you feel like you can't cook, you can follow a video recipe closely and get the same results sis! Be adventurous when time permits and consider batch cooking or meal prepping to save time during busy weekdays.
