The Proverbs 31 Woman Challenge Day One: transforming your communication skills

Welcome to Day 1 of the 5 day Proverbs 31 Woman Challenge. In our last letter, we explored the characteristics of the Proverbs 31 Woman and identified the 5 key areas which she thrived in, which were:1. Wise and Kind Communication2. Care for her Household and Home-making3. Care of Herself (Spiritual, Mental and Physical)4. Her Relationships5. Business (Resourcefulness and Entrepreneurialism)Across the next 5 days I'll be giving my top 5 tips on how to improve these 5 areas of your life. The letters will be short and practical so that you can start straight away to see improvements in these areas of your life. So let's dive in, starting with communication. Why is good communication skills important for a woman of God?Christian women should care about communication because how we speak allows us to reflect Christ's character, build meaningful relationships, share the Gospel, minister to others, resolve conflict, and honor God. Effective communication is integral to living out the Christian faith in our daily life. Colossians 4:6 says "let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one."My 5 KEY tips on Communication for women of God:Here are my 5 simple keys to transforming this area of your life.

1. Pray for Guidance: Start each day with prayer, asking for God's wisdom and guidance in your communication with others. Ask Him to give you correct utterance so that your words will be intentional and full of wisdom.

2. Study Scripture: Regularly read and study the Bible to learn examples of effective communication and to apply biblical principles to your interactions. The law of kindness will be on your lips and the ways of wisdom will govern your heart when you decide to be a student of God's Word.

3. Practice Active Listening: Cultivate the habit of active listening by focusing on understanding others before responding, showing empathy and respect. This is such a powerful habit to form. Most people only listen in order to respond, but those who listen to truly hear the other person are the most effective communicators because they possess the ability to make others feel heard and valued.

4. Hearing God, speaking like God: Strive to communicate with kindness and honesty, speaking words that build others up and reflect Christ's love. This will become more and more natural over time as your heart continually softens through hearing God's communication to you, by His Word and by worship. Seek opportunities to speak to people with the awareness that you are a vessel of Christ and He is always looking to speak through you, unto others. 

5. Seek Reconciliation and Forgiveness: One characteristic that separates Christians from any other group is the high calling we have to forgive others. This should be reflected in your communication and your willingness to reconcile with others and extend forgiveness when conflicts arise, following Christ's example of love and forgiveness. Identify people in your life you may be carrying unforgiveness towards and decide to communicate forgiveness towards them. This is an act of true power and grace.
