The Proverbs 31 Woman Discover the woman God has called you to be!

Hi, Woman of God

I hope you have had a lovely weekend. As promised, I want to share my takeaways from the famous passage on the Proverbs 31 woman. There is so much we can learn from Proverbs 31 verses 10-31 about the women God has called us to be. Below are some characteristics and traits of this woman of God, which we can observe and apply to our own lives. The following can be said of this woman of God:

  • She knows her worth (verse 10)

  • She is trustworthy (verse 11)

  • She is a good wife (verses 11-12)

  • She is hardworking and resourceful (verses 13-14)

  • She maximises the hours in a day by being an early riser (verse 15)

  • She is wise with money, business-savvy and multiplies what is in her hand (verse 16)

  • She is strong yet constantly strengthening and improving herself (verse 17)

  • She enjoys the fruit of her merchandise/profit, and her increase continues even at night. She is diligent about the work of her hands (verse 18-19)

  • She is generous and serves the needs of others (verse 20)

  • She takes care of her home/her household and prepares them for every season (verse 21)

  • She takes care of herself and is clothed in fine garments (verse 22)

  • She married well, a man of virtue and honour (verse 23)

  • She is entrepreneurial (verse 24)

  • She is noticed by her strength and the way she carries herself with honour. She will enjoy the fruit of her ways (i.e. the ways of wisdom) which are good and praiseworthy (verse 25)

  • She is a woman led by wisdom (verse 26)

  • She speaks wisely and with kindness (verse 26)

  • She not only lives by wisdom but she watches to ensure her household is following the ways of wisdom (verse 27)

  • She is not lazy or idle (verse 27)

  • She fears the Lord (verse 30)

As a result of all these things above, her family call her blessed. They appreciate her, they praise her and they value her greatly (verses 28-29).To understand the significance of this passage, we need to understand the context. At the time when this was written, women were largely regarded as low status and not worthy of much value aside from child bearing. This passage is still powerful to is today, but at the time that it was written and for the audience who first received it, these words would have been nothing short of revolutionary. To simply speak of a woman's worth being far above rubies would have been ground-breaking. To speak of a woman being praised for her OWN works (verse 31) and not that of her husband or her father would have been a rare thing. But here we have God's words revealing the intended glory of a woman.I love this passage so much because it shows me God's true design for the woman. It dispels all of the enemy's lies about our identity as women. It shows me who I can be in Christ and who I already am by the spirit of God. It shows me all the areas of myself that I can aspire to refine and improve. It reveals to me the qualities I can desire and be diligent to see reflected in my character.

THE 5 KEY AREAS

We can categorise this passage of the Proverbs 31 woman into 5 areas for every woman to understand and develop:

WHICH BIBLE BOOK TO READ NEXT

I'm so glad you have been blessed by the Proverbs Challenge throughout January. Although we are not doing a Bible reading challenge this month of February, I want to share some recommendations for the girls who have asked me what book they should study next:

  • Galatians - This is a fantastic book to understand the gospel. I did a daily study on this book (6 chapters over 6 days) on my Instagram reels @creatortochi.

  • Ephesians - As above, you can find my study of this book on my Instagram reels @creatortochi.

  • Esther - A brilliant book about a woman who God used mightily to save her people. This is a narrative book (it reads more like a story) but is full of practical wisdom for women of God.

  • Romans - one of my favourite books for the pure, unfiltered gospel message. If you want to truly understand the significance of the gospel, then Romans is the book to prayerfully study.

  • Proverbs (again) - I read this book multiple times each year, and will never tire of the practical wisdom in it. You can re-do the challenge all over again and be amazed at how God reveals new and deeper things to you each time you read it.
