The Proverbs Challenge Day 14 - Chapter 14
Hi, Woman of God
Welcome to Day 14 of the Challenge!Happy Sunday Sisters! For anyone who has asked about getting access to the previous days of the Proverbs Challenge, you can access all of them at this link: https://us12.campaign-archive.com/home/?u=c3d68ef009bcb5bccca6d8a50&id=0802d94172Below are my study notes for today's chapter using the S.O.A.P method, let me know what stood out to you from this powerful chapter!
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 14 verse 12 and verses 26-27.
OBSERVATION
Verse 12"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."This verse is giving "lean not on your own understanding..." (proverbs 3:5). It also reminds me of another verse in Proverbs which spoke about how the ways of man are before the Lord and He ponders all of our paths (proverbs 5:21).We are limited in our understanding and there are things that we may think are right which actually lead down a path of death and destruction. Culture is quick to glamourise things that God has said is not right, and He says this because of the perspective He sees which we cannot see.The more I know God, the more I believe that EVERYTHING He instructs of me is for my own good, even when I can't understand it. The verse that comes to mind is Jeremiah 29:11 "for I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."His plans for me are good, He is a loving Father.Verses 26-27"In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, and His children will have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death."These verses teach about the fear of the Lord. We have learned from previous chapters that the fear of the Lord means to obey God and to choose His ways over our own. I am reminded here about the blessings that come from obedience and being God fearing (life, confidence, safety and refuge) as well as the troubles that come from rejecting God's wisdom and turning away from the protection of His instructions (death and destruction).
APPLICATION
Verse 12I will continue to pursue the ways of God, having the understanding from this verse that even if my ways seem right to me, I will seek to cross-check them with the word of God and wise counsel to ensure that it is a way that leads to life and not to death. Verses 26-27I will continue to grow in my fear of the Lord. In order to obey God, I must hear His instructions. I will study the Word regularly so that I can discern His ways and receive the understanding I need to apply His ways to my life.
PRAYER
Thank You Heavenly Father for Your Word. I will never tire of thanking You for all that You do for me and my sisters. Let my ways be Your ways, and my confidence be centred around You. The fear of the Lord will be my portion all the days of my life, in Jesus name, Amen!
