The Proverbs Challenge Day 17 - Chapter 17
Hi, Woman of God
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 17 verse 6.
OBSERVATION
Verse 6"grandchildren are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father." This verse is so powerful. It reveals that a man’s legacy is in his lineage - the children and grandchildren that he bears. This is a reminder to me of the importance of family and the children we raise. They are our legacy on this earth and an honour or crown to us. May God grant us wisdom in building beautiful families. The second half of this verse is full of wisdom also. It communicates the truth that a child’s glory (fame, respect, honour) is often linked to the family they come from. The harsh reality of life and human nature is that the child of a celebrity is more likely to enjoy preferential treatment over the child of the average man. When people are seeking to assess your status they may wonder “what family is she from? who is his father? who is her mother?”. Although we know that this is not a correct way to judge someone's value, it is what happens. However, there are two compelling lessons I receive from this. The first to know that, although I cannot control the family I was born into, I can certainly control the family that I give my own children. I see why it’s important to give our children families they can be proud to belong to. Families that live in the glory of God and pursue His wisdom. The second lesson is even more impactful to me. I see how, despite the fact that not everyone has an earthly father who has been around for them as they should have been, the most wonderful thing about being in Christ is that God becomes our Father. No matter who our earthly father is, we have a Father who becomes our glory just as this verse explains. I see here the importance of having our identity firmly rooted in Christ because regardless of what family you come from, you will see your worth, honour and glory coming from the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Now, I can have boldness and confidence in knowing who I am because of WHOSE I am. Goodness me, it doesn’t get more glorious than that!
APPLICATION
I will continue to pray about my future family. I will pray for my husband, my children and my grandchildren that the legacy we leave on this earth will bring glory to the Lord! I will continue to remind myself of my identity in Christ Jesus. Whenever a voice (internal or external) tries to speak lowly of me, I will confess the truth of God which supersedes every voice and says that I am the daughter of the most high God and made righteous through Christ Jesus. THAT is where my glory comes from, PRAISE God!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me daughter. Thank You for being a good Father. Thank You for being the Father to the fatherless and the protector of Your children. You have called us loved, You have called us chosen. I bless Your Holy name forever. Help me to continue to keep my eyes on You and in all things to bring glory to You. Let my life and the lives of my family be a showcase of Your faithfulness. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
