The Proverbs Challenge Day 7 - Chapter 7

Hi, Woman of God

Welcome to Day 7 of the Challenge!I hope the first Sunday of 2024 treated you well. I'm back home from church, preparing something to eat and getting ready for the week ahead.Below are my study notes for the chapter I studied this morning using the S.O.A.P method. Let me know how you found chapter 7!

SCRIPTURE

Proverbs Chapter 7 (the chapter as a whole).

OBSERVATION

At this point, Solomon is like “hello? yep hi, if you didn’t hear me in chapter 5… or in chapter 6… then hear me in chapter 7” he said FLEEEE from sexual immorality. I wonder how much of Solomon’s convictions about this came from his dad, King David, hammering it into his head because of his own experiences with adultery. It’s clear to see that this is a very serious warning.Sexual purity is so important because of the protection it provides us. The Bible is clear that rebellion in this area opens doors for other troubles in our lives and more detrimental than that, it seems to be one of the most powerful ways that the enemy uses to lead people down a path away from God “…descending to the chambers of death” (v27).I observe Solomon’s solution to this temptation. He advises the reader to continue seeking God’s wisdom and understanding, that this will keep us from falling into this trap (v4). As we grow in God's wisdom and understanding we will not be moved by seductive words. For anyone who currently struggles with sexual sin in any way: continuing to study God’s wisdom and to seek Him - even when you feel unworthy, guilty or disappointed - will be the exact thing that saves you because the Holy Spirit will pour Wisdom into you and you will receive revelation that gives you grace and strength to overcome this sin. Don’t let self-condemnation take you away from God because He is the only One who can deliver you. This is my testimony with God. The girl I am today is so different from who I was some years ago. It was my intimacy with God that transformed my desires, my lifestyle and my heart. Praise Him for being in the business of transformation!Verse 9-12 made me realise that a lot of problems can be avoided just by staying home :) “In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night” for what reason should I be wandering the streets at this time? The words of my mother come blasting back at me, it’s like she wrote these words herself. But there’s truly wisdom in knowing when to stay home. Shout out to all my homebody girlies who know this message well!

APPLICATION

I will continue to apply discernment about not allowing myself to be in environments that I have no business being in. I will be mindful of the times that I am outside alone, especially as a woman and I will be mindful of environments that have a track record of leading to temptation. I won't be prideful to think that I am above falling into temptation, but I will apply humility and avoid situations that have caused men and women before me to stumble. By Your grace Lord, I will continue in Your word each day so that Your wisdom continues to teach me and instruct me.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank you for teaching us so repetitively in this area, that we may hear and not fall victim to this temptation. Continue to pour out Your wisdom and understanding on us as we read Your Word, and even when conviction strikes or Your instruction is uncomfortable to receive, may we continue to listen that our life will be transformed by the power of Your word. In Jesus name, Amen.
