The Proverbs Challenge - Day 1

Will you be foolish or will you be wise? The choice is ours...

Hi Woman of God

Happy December! I pray that this month will be prepare us for the growth and transformation that God has coming our way.

To help us with this, the Proverbs challenge begins!

After an active Sunday (church, fellowship, shopping, etc), I came home and finally got some time to wind down with my Bible. Even if you get your time in late today, still find some time to read the chapter and note down your takeaways. It’s not about length but about consistency: a small time is better than no time!

Below are my study notes for today's chapter using the S.O.A.P method. I can’t wait to hear some of yours and how you found day 1. Feel free to tag me in your stories on IG throughout this challenge @creatortochi so I can see/ share as many as I can.

Let’s dive in!

SCRIPTURE

Proverbs Chapter 1 (the chapter as a whole with emphasis on verses 20-33)

OBSERVATION

The Book of Proverbs is about to pour wisdom into us, and I observe that this Chapter aims to prepare us and reveal the importance of listening to this wisdom.

Solomon starts by writing about man’s need to know wisdom, instruction, understanding. He emphasises that wisdom starts with a reverence for God, and he separates the wise man from the foolish man by this one thing. The wise man fears the Lord and therefore commits his heart to seeking wisdom. However the foolish man despises wisdom and is enticed by sinners into the ways that lead to death (verse 19).

I observe two important things in Verses 20-33. First, Solomon personifies Wisdom as “She,” presenting her as a living and active presence rather than an “It” or a mere idea. Second, this personified Wisdom actively calls out to us, offering to guide, teach, and share her spirit that we will be wise (v23). Her desire is to protect us and lead us into peace and security (v33) if we choose to listen.

However, verses 24-32 explain the fate of the person who rejects Wisdom and how they will eat the fruits (i.e. bear the consequences) of their own destructive ways.

The overarching message is clear: choosing God's Wisdom leads to life, security, and peace, while rejecting it leads to ruin. God has not left us to figure out life on our own, but His heart towards us is full of love and He reaches out to us through Wisdom to help us navigate this life well here on this earth. Praise God for Wisdom!

APPLICATION

I will continue to seek after Wisdom. I recognise that true success and security come only from aligning my life with His Word. Throughout this Proverbs challenge, I will listen to Wisdom's words and see how I can apply it to my daily decisions. I will resist the temptations of the world and instead follow the path God lays before me.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your living Word and the gift of Wisdom that calls out to me each day. Help me to recognise and reject sinful ways that lead to destruction. Open my ears to hear Your voice, and give me the courage and discipline to walk in Your ways. Let Your wisdom guide my steps, bring peace to my heart, and help me to glorify You in all I do. In Jesus’ name, amen. 🩷

See you tomorrow for Day 2 sister

With my love
