The Proverbs Challenge - Day 29

Disciplining children, the key to self control and overcoming the fear of man

Hi Woman of God

Happy Sunday! I pray the final few days of this month bring you revelation, guidance and peace for the year ahead.

Let’s get into day 29 of the challenge.

SCRIPTURE

Proverbs Chapter 29, verses 15, 18 and 25

OBSERVATION

Verse 15
"The rod and rebuke give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother."

This verse emphasises the importance of discipline in raising children. Discipline, when given in love, imparts wisdom and sets boundaries that children need in order to grow into responsible, God-fearing adults. In today’s culture, there’s often resistance to correction, but this verse highlights that neglecting to discipline a child leads to destructive behaviour, which reflects poorly on both the child and the parents. Parents have a significant role in shaping the next generation, and part of that involves lovingly correcting and guiding their children.

Verse 18
"Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law."

This verse shows the importance of having a vision for your life, and not just any vision but the one that you revealed to you from God. Without God’s revelation, people lose direction and self-control, leading to chaos and sin. A life lived in alignment with God’s vision will always be guided by God’s Word and will provide structure, purpose, and joy to the one who lives it. Walking in God’s vision for your life and keeping God’s law doesn’t just bring happiness; it safeguards us from the dangers of a lawless life and produces fruit that satisfies not only us but those we are called to serve. This is a reminder of the importance of staying connected to God and seeking revelation/clarity on His vision for our lives in order to maintain discipline and direction. The key to self control and discipline is therefore revelation of God’s vision for our lives.

Verse 25
"The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe."

This verse warns against the trap of living to please others or fearing their opinions. Fearing man can lead to compromise and spiritual stagnation. However, trusting in the Lord provides safety and confidence. True freedom comes from living in alignment with God’s will rather than being controlled by the approval or disapproval of others. Trust in God allows us to walk boldly, knowing He is our protector and guide.

APPLICATION

  • For verse 15: I will take time to reflect on how I can lovingly guide and correct those under my care, whether they are children or mentees. I will value discipline as a way to impart wisdom, not as punishment but as an act of love.

  • For verse 18: I will regularly seek God’s guidance through His Word and prayer, asking daily for clarity concerning His vision for my life. I will prioritise staying in alignment with His law, knowing that it will bear right fruit in my life.

  • For verse 25: I will identify areas where I may be overly concerned about others' opinions and choose to trust God instead. I will step out in faith, relying on His promises and protection.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for Your Word, which gives wisdom, guidance, and protection. Give me the clarity of vision and revelation to stay on the path You have set for me. Teach me to trust You wholeheartedly and not to fear people’s opinions, knowing You are my refuge and safety. In Jesus’ name, Amen.🩷

See you tomorrow for Day 30 sis - we’re nearly at the end

With my love
