The Proverbs Challenge - Day 27
Is your soul truly satisfied?
Hi Woman of God
I’ve been down with a cold the past couple days, snuck up on me right after the Christmas festivities. I’ve been praying over myself for a speedy recovery because we are definitely not entering 2025 coughing and sneezing. So it’s been a restful day, plenty liquids and hot meals. Make sure to stay wrapped up, sis - especially if you are in a cold climate this season. And to my ladies doing Christmas in the heat, more power to you! 😉
Let’s dive into today’s SOAP.
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 27, verses 7 and 17
OBSERVATION
Verse 7:
"A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet."
The word "soul" refers to the mind, will, and emotions of man. This verse illustrates to me how the state of our soul determines our susceptibility to temptation. When our souls are satisfied i.e., filled with God’s Word, comforted by His presence and trusting in His promises, we can resist temptations, no matter how appealing they appear - even despising those things that seek to tear us away from God. However, an unsatisfied soul, one that is longing and hungry, is prone to fall for traps that seem sweet but are actually bitter in the end.
This reminds me of scriptures like Psalm 107:9: "For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness," This verse point to the truth that our souls find true satisfaction in God alone, not in the fleeting pleasures of the world. The proper response when we sense our soul becoming hungry is to turn to God’s Word to be filled.
Verse 17:
"As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens his friend."
This verse emphasises the transformative power of relationships. Just as iron sharpens iron, people can refine and strengthen one another. It highlights the importance of surrounding yourself with individuals who can sharpen you spiritually, mentally, and intellectually. Godly friendships and relationships are essential for growth because they provide opportunities for encouragement, correction, and mutual sharpening. A mutually beneficial relationship allows both individuals to pour into each other, strengthening their walk with God. This is why I’m so passionate about being part of a godly community, where each member seeks to grow and help others do the same.
APPLICATION
I will prioritise seeking God to satisfy my soul daily, filling my mind with His Word and keeping myself in His presence so I am not drawn to fleeting temptations. I will also evaluate my relationships, ensuring I’m surrounding myself with people who challenge and sharpen me spiritually, mentally, and intellectually. In turn, I will continue to be intentional about sharpening others, contributing positively to their growth in Christ.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for being the source of satisfaction for my soul. Give me the grace to always seek You daily and be filled by Your Word and presence so that I can resist temptations and walk in Your will. Continue to surround me with godly friends, mentors and relationships who will sharpen me, and help me be a source of encouragement and refinement for others. Let my life reflect Your wisdom and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
See you tomorrow for Day 28 sis ✨
With my love
