The Proverbs Challenge - Day 30
Poverty vs Riches - Which One is Your Vice?
Hi Woman of God
A new week is here and we’re in the final 2 days of 2024 - Wow!
2025 has much in store for us, and I’ll be sharing more on that in due time.
But for now, let’s dive into day 30; the second-to-last day of our Proverbs challenge!
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 30, verses 8 and 9
“Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give me neither poverty nor riches - feed me with the food allotted to me;
Lest I be full and deny You, and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or lest I be poor and steal, and profane the name of my God.”
OBSERVATION
This passage reveals the wisdom of guarding our hearts against the temptations that come with both wealth and poverty.
Wealth, in itself, is not evil; the issue arises when it causes us to feel so self-sufficient that we forget our need for God. When we are ‘full’ as the verse says, we may fall into pride and believe that we achieved everything on our own, asking, “Who is the Lord?” - this reveals that one’s heart was not fully on God in the first place. On the other hand, poverty can tempt us into actions that dishonor God, such as stealing or doubting His provision. Both extremes can lead us away from a trusting relationship with Him.
The principle here is clear: our hearts must remain centered on God regardless of our material state. Solomon’s prayer is one of dependence, acknowledging that God knows what is best for us and asking Him to provide what is necessary - neither too little nor too much, based on what we can handle in each season of our life. This attitude reflects humility and a deep trust in God's wisdom and provision, as well as a deep desire for living in a state that pleases God.
APPLICATION
In times of financial abundance, I will praise God and remain generous, ensuring that wealth does not draw my heart away from Him. In times of lack, I will trust God’s provision and flee from making decisions that dishonour Him.
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for the wisdom in Your Word. Help me to guard my heart from the pride that can come with abundance and the desperation that can come with lack. In all seasons, help me to keep my heart on you alone. Teach me to trust You completely and to rely on Your provision always. Thank You for being my provider and sustainer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
See you tomorrow for Day 31 sis - THE FINAL DAY OF OUR PROVERBS CHALLENGE!!! ✨
