Who's your girl? Wisdom or Folly?

Hi Woman of God

Happy Monday! I pray that this week brings you peace, favour and progress in the work of your hands. As December is already racing by, let’s use the remaining days of 2024 well.

Below are my study notes for today's chapter using the S.O.A.P method. Let me know how you are finding the challenge so far, it’s great to read your messages; and feel free to tag me in your stories on IG doing the challenge @creatortochi so I can see/ share as many as I can.

Let’s dive in!

SCRIPTURE

Proverbs Chapter 9 (the chapter as a whole)

OBSERVATION

This chapter highlights the two paths available to us: the way of Wisdom (v1-6) and the way of Folly (v13-18). Both Wisdom and Folly are personified as women who extend invitations to those passing by. However, their offers and outcomes couldn’t be more different.

Wisdom builds her house, prepares a feast, and calls out to the simple and those who lack understanding, offering life and insight (v1-6). Her invitation is rich, purposeful, and leads to a life of fulfilment and peace. On the other hand, Folly is loud, seductive, and calls out to the same audience, offering stolen pleasures that ultimately lead to death (v13-18). Each day, we are faced with their competing voices, and the choice of which to follow is ours.

Choosing Wisdom is not a single decision made once but a continuous journey of commitment. Life brings countless opportunities to heed either Wisdom or Folly, and we must intentionally choose Wisdom daily. This reminds me of the Apollo 11 story where Neil Armstrong shared how the spacecraft constantly veered off course due to external forces. To reach their destination, the astronauts had to make regular course corrections—every three minutes—to stay aligned with their goal.

In the same way, living wisely requires regular and daily adjustments. It’s not a "set it and forget it" path. We must continually align our actions with God’s Word and Wisdom to remain on track. This consistent dedication is how we ensure we land in the place God has intended for us. And when we veer away, we can course correct and get back on track. Praise God for His guidance in helping us stay the course!

Verse 10 provides an important key: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” From Proverbs 8:13, we understand that fearing the Lord means hating evil. When we begin to hate the things God hates, we gain wisdom and understanding, allowing us to see life from His perspective.

Additionally, the verse states, “the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” This highlights the futility of trying to figure out life without acknowledging God. Many seek wisdom while excluding Him, but this is like trying to solve an equation without all the necessary numbers… it leads only to confusion. True understanding begins with knowing God, the source of all wisdom.

APPLICATION

This chapter challenges me to examine the invitations I am responding to daily. Am I prioritising the feast that Wisdom has prepared, or am I tempted by the fleeting pleasures of Folly? It’s a call to be intentional about my choices and to pursue the things that lead to life and spiritual growth.

I will commit daily to spending time with God, studying His Word, and seeking wise counsel for the challenges I face. I understand that pursuing wisdom is an ongoing process, so when I find myself veering off track, I will realign myself with God’s guidance through prayer and reflection on His word, ensuring I remain in His will.

Finally, I will continue to root myself in the fear of the Lord, allowing reverence for Him to guide my decisions and deepen my relationship with Him. Wisdom is not about a one-time choice but a daily pursuit, and I will continue to pray for grace to walk steadfastly in her way.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank You for providing the path of Wisdom to guide us through life. Help me to recognise the voice of Wisdom and distinguish it from the voice of Folly. Teach me to choose Wisdom daily and to make the necessary adjustments to stay aligned with Your will. Fill me with Your understanding as I seek to know You more. In Jesus’ name, amen.

See you tomorrow for Day 10 sis

With my love
