The Esther Challenge - Day 7
Hollywood couldn't have written a better plot twist...
Hi Woman of God
What a powerful chapter. How quickly the tables turn against the enemies of God. Hollywood couldn’t have wrote a more captivating and dramatic plot twist. Haman, the villain against the people of God, is destroyed in the same exact way that he had sought to destroy God’s people.
There are so many lessons from this short chapter, so let’s get into it.
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 7 (the chapter as a whole)
OBSERVATION
This chapter marks the climax of Esther’s courageous plan. At the second banquet, she finally reveals Haman’s wicked plot, but she does so with wisdom and emotional intelligence. Instead of outright accusing Haman, she first appeals to the king’s heart, making her request personal and urgent (verses 3-4).
A crucial strategy in her approach is how she includes herself with the Jews. Before this moment, the king seemingly has no real, personal connection to the Jewish people; he had casually agreed to their extermination without realising the consequences. But now, Esther reveals that she, his beloved queen, is counted among them. Suddenly, this decree isn’t just about some distant group of people - it is a direct attack on his own household, his own wife. She allows the king to see how this decree negatively affects him - personally, economically, and politically. This was a masterful way of ensuring the king took immediate action.
In verse 4, she wisely states that if they had only been sold into slavery, she would have remained silent, implying that while this would have been unjust, it wouldn’t have been as disastrous for the king. However, since their annihilation would result in a great loss also to him, she speaks up. This subtle but powerful framing makes the king feel that he has been personally wronged.
When the king learns that Haman is behind the decree, he is furious. Haman, in desperation, throws himself on Esther’s couch, which the king - already furious at Haman - misinterprets as an assault (verse 8). This seals Haman’s fate, and he is executed on the very gallows he built for Mordecai (verse 10).
Key Lessons from this chapter:
Esther’s Communication Skills: Her Wisdom in Speech, Timing, and Making the Problem Personal (Verses 3-4)
Esther didn’t rush to expose Haman; she waited for the right moment when the king was emotionally invested. She presented her case in a way that made the king feel personally affected, which ensured he acted quickly. This teaches us to be strategic when making important requests, knowing when to speak and how to frame our words for maximum impact.
The Power of Femininity and Influence (Verses 3-6)
Esther approached the king with grace, patience, and emotional intelligence rather than aggression. She prepared a feast, served the king and addressed him as her king before expressing her request. There is much wisdom here for understanding how to wisely navigate communications with men to get what we need as a woman.
Divine Justice Always Prevails (Verse 10)
Haman’s evil plan backfired, and he was executed on the very gallows he built for Mordecai. No scheme against God’s people will prosper - God always fights for His own.
APPLICATION
I Will Use Wisdom, Strategy, and Emotional Intelligence in Communication
When I need to make an important request or present a case, I will consider the right timing, the right approach, and how to make it personal for the listener. Instead of just stating facts, I will appeal to what matters to the other person, ensuring they see how the issue affects them. The next time I need support from someone - whether in my personal or professional life - I will first think through how to present it in a way that speaks to their priorities and emotions.
I Will Trust God’s Justice and Let Him Fight for Me
Like Esther, I will do my part in faith, but I will also trust that God will handle the battles I cannot fight myself. Haman’s downfall reminds me that no enemy, no unfair situation, and no evil scheme will succeed against God’s will for my life. Instead of stressing over people who mistreat me, I will focus on doing what is right and leave justice in God’s hands. I will pray for wisdom in handling difficult situations and trust that God will bring the right outcome in His time.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for the practical wisdom in Esther’s story. Help me to know how to present my requests wisely. Teach me how to use my influence with grace and emotional intelligence. Lord, I also trust in Your justice, that no evil plan can stand against Your will for my life. I surrender my battles to You, knowing that You fight for me and always bring the right outcome at the right time. Strengthen me to walk in faith, wisdom, and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
See you tomorrow for Day 8 sister ✨
