The Proverbs Challenge - Day 10
How do I know if I am righteous in the eyes of God?
Hi Woman of God
I had a longer time in the Word today as the theme of this chapter 10 is one that touches on a fundamental topic that we must understand as Christians. This is the topic of righteousness - more specifically, what makes us righteous in the eyes of God.
I was filled with complete joy as I wrote this S.O.A.P. God is truly amazing, His love and His wisdom leave me speechless. I pray you get the revelation behind these truths.
Let’s get into it.
SCRIPTURE
Proverbs Chapter 10 (the chapter as a whole)
OBSERVATION
From Chapter 10 onwards, the style of Proverbs shifts slightly. Solomon spends the first 9 chapters primarily laying the foundation for us (the readers) to desire Wisdom and see it as the main thing we must pursue. Chapter 10, however, is now giving us very practical wisdom on various topics.
One important observation from this chapter is that many of the verses here draw a clear distinction between two groups of people: the righteous and the wicked. This naturally raises the question…
Who qualifies as righteous, and who qualifies as wicked?
I remember grappling with this question as a young believer. Although I had surrendered my life to Christ and could see His love transforming me, I was far from a saint and fell short of God’s perfect standard - still do. I couldn’t help but wonder, When God looks at me, does He see me as righteous? How could I be righteous when I fall short in so many ways?
Romans 3:21-26 answers this question beautifully:
"But now the righteousness of God, apart from the law, is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."
This passage makes it clear: no one can make themselves righteous, and no one is righteous by their own efforts. All of us fall short of God’s standard (which is perfection). But in His immense love, God offers us His own righteousness as a gift. Through faith in Jesus, we are justified and made right with God: not by our works but by His grace and the redemption found in Christ.
This truth is central to the gospel and the foundation of our faith. It reminds us that righteousness is not something we earn but something God gives freely to those who believe on Jesus, who became the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of all who would believe in Him. With this understanding, we can approach the wisdom in Proverbs with confidence, knowing we have been made righteous through Christ, and therefore we seek to live lives that reflect this reality.
We are called to walk in righteousness not to become righteous but because we already are, through Christ Jesus. Wow, Glory to God!!
APPLICATION
This chapter reminds me of the truth that my righteousness comes from God. It is a gift of grace, not something one can achieve through their own efforts. Whenever I feel unworthy, I will use it as an opportunity to praise God for His love and mercy. Understanding this only makes me love Jesus more, because He has given us so much more than we could ever deserve. He saw us in our weakness and gave Himself for us, that we could have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). I will strive to align my actions with this identity of righteousness that He has given us (2 Corinthians 5:21), seeking wisdom in order to continue to walk in the righteousness of God in every area of my life.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the precious gift of righteousness through Jesus Christ. Thank You for covering me with His atoning blood so that I can stand before You in confidence, not because of my own works but because of Your grace. Help me to live in a way that reflects who You’ve made me to be. Teach me through Your wisdom, and guide me daily to walk in alignment with Your will. Thank You for Your unfailing love and mercy. I love You forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
See you tomorrow for Day 11 sister ✨
With my love
