Have you ever wondered what your true purpose in life is?

Why were you created, and what does God desire for you?

Many of us, at one time or another, have asked these deep questions. Thankfully, the Bible reveals the truth of our purpose. God's Word makes it clear: we were created for something so profound, so powerful, that once we grasp it, everything in our lives changes.

I want to show you once and for all what it is.

We all probably know the verse John 3:16 - but I want you to truly see this.

John 3:16 reminds us of God’s incredible love for us and the reason Jesus came:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Jesus died to give us eternal life. But what does eternal life truly mean?

Many people assume this refers to life after death, but eternal life is so much more than that. In fact, the Bible gives us a clear definition of what eternal life really is.

John 17:3 says:

"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

Eternal life is not simply about living forever in heaven - it is about knowing God. This is the very reason Jesus died! Eternal life starts now, here on earth, as we come to know God in a deep, personal way. And it gets even better when we understand what "knowing" really means in the original Greek text.

The Power of Knowing God Intimately

The word "knowing" in John 17:3 is not a casual acquaintance or superficial knowledge. It refers to an intimate, close, and deeply personal relationship. This is the kind of knowing God desires to have with you: a relationship of love, trust, and friendship.

Jesus confirms this in John 15:15 when He says:

"I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

Think about that. Jesus calls you His friend! He doesn’t want you to see Him as distant or unapproachable. He wants to walk with you, speak with you, and have a relationship where you truly know Him in the most intimate way.

So, this is our true purpose: to know God. When we are growing in our relationship with Him, learning about His love for us, and falling deeper in love with Him, we are walking in our God-given purpose. He created us for this very reason. This is the eternal life Jesus died to restore back to us. The eternal life that was lost as a result of sin entering into the world.
